SAY NO TO WOOLWORTHS PUTTING PROFIT OVER COMMUNITY

The issue

Support our local retail shops, small business owners, schools and residents in OPPOSING the Woolworths giant destroying our unique local environment.

WE SAY NO TO WOOLWORTHS

  • BUILDING A 5 STOREY (7 STOREY EQUIVALENT) BUILDING
  • BUILDING A FULL-SIZED SUPERMARKET
  • BUILDING ANOTHER SET OF TRAFFIC LIGHTS
  • REMOVING 20 CURBSIDE PARKING SPOTS

AT 173 BURKE RD & 28 HOPE ST, GLEN IRIS

COMMUNITY PROBLEMS THIS WILL CAUSE:

Destroy local business in Central Park Village

o   Less parking and reduced accessibility

o   Woolworths price gouging to attract customers away from local traders

Our children’s safety at risk

o   More traffic confusion

o   Large dangerous vehicles (delivery trucks, rubbish disposal vehicles)

o   Local school children at risk

o   Local sport and community participants at risk

Increased Traffic and congestion

o   On the already busy Burke Rd & Wattletree Rd areas

o   Slowed traffic due to additional traffic lights

o   Delivery trucks at all hours

This application is awaiting a decision by the Minister for Planning. If the Minister approves the application, the development will create a whole sequence of irreversible problems and adversely affect the liveability for us all.

Opposing this development is of such significant local community concern, it is a matter the Stonnington Council should prioritise, lead and fund any legal challenge.

As our local government representatives, we call on Stonnington Council to:

  1. Take real action to object to this development and to do everything in its power to stop this development from proceeding.
  2. Engage planning lawyers to investigate all legal avenues to challenge any Ministerial planning decision; and
  3. Fund any judicial review that is recommended by the planning lawyers.
