We Stopped the Law -- Now Let’s Stop the Site Plan. And We Need Your Help to Do It!

Here’s another update — and another chance to help.

We are continuing to ask the Planning Board and Town Board to declare the 2006 Wawarsing Estates site plan dead -- just like the Town Code says it is.

Site plans have a shelf life. And for good reason. A lot can change in 20 years.

Traffic changes. Population changes. Flood maps change. Zoning laws change.

This giant project sits in a flood zone on the Rondout. It should not move forward based on an ancient plan, outdated environmental review, and old assumptions.

Once a site plan expires, it should stay expired.

But instead, the Planning Board accepted the developer’s claim of “vested rights.” In plain English, that means the developer says they spent money on the project many years ago and should still be allowed to use the old plan.

We do not agree.

This mega-development cannot be allowed to cut corners.
