Say No to Victoria County's Local Improvement Charge Bylaw!

Say No to Victoria County's Local Improvement Charge Bylaw!
The Issue
As a concerned resident of Victoria County, Nova Scotia, Canada, I am writing this petition to oppose the proposed Local Improvement Charge Bylaw being considered by our County Council. This bill has already passed its first reading and if it is approved, residents like us will be burdened with additional costs for new infrastructure projects. Moreover, if we are unable to pay these charges, a lien will be placed on our properties.
I believe that implementing such a bylaw would place an unfair financial burden on the residents of Victoria County. It is crucial that we join together and voice our opposition against this proposal before it becomes law.
Personal Story:
Growing up in Victoria County has been a privilege. The beautiful landscapes and close-knit community have made it an ideal place to call home. However, recent developments regarding the Local Improvement Charge Bylaw have left me deeply concerned about the future of our county.
Like many others in our community, I work hard to make ends meet and provide for my family. The prospect of having additional charges imposed upon us for new infrastructure projects is not only financially burdensome but also unjustifiable considering the limited benefits they may bring.
It is disheartening to think that if we are unable to pay these charges promptly or in full, liens could be placed on our properties. This could potentially lead to foreclosure or other severe consequences for families who are already struggling financially.
Victoria County Council should prioritize finding alternative funding solutions rather than resorting to charging its residents through local improvement charges. We deserve transparency and accountability when it comes to decisions that directly impact our lives and livelihoods.
Local improvement charge programs have been shown in various jurisdictions across Canada and beyond as being regressive since they disproportionately affect lower-income households.
In similar cases, residents have faced significant financial hardships due to the implementation of local improvement charges. negative consequences experienced by communities in other regions.
By signing this petition, we are urging Victoria County Council to reconsider and reject the Local Improvement Charge Bylaw. Let us demand that they explore more equitable and sustainable funding solutions that do not burden residents with additional charges or threaten our properties.
Together, we can make a difference and protect the financial well-being of our community. Sign this petition today and say NO to Victoria County's Local Improvement Charge Bylaw!
