Dear Residents of Meadowvale Village,
Thank you for your support regarding Old Ridge Park! We are thrilled to share that due to community feedback the skateboard park is not being recommended!
We have received the below email from Brad Butt (Councillor, Ward 11):
Thank you for your correspondence and valued feedback regarding the proposed improvements for Old Ridge Park. Please be advised that Park Development Staff have completed their review of all of the resident comments that were received as part of the public engagement for Old Ridge Park. Based on the feedback received from the community, Staff are recommending the installation of the outdoor fitness area only, as the junior skateboard features were not supported by the community.
Park Development Staff also reviewed the feasibility of resident suggestions received through the public engagement for a spray pad, shade structure, and playground rubber surfacing and provide the following recommendations:
- A spray pad is not recommended due to limited available space for construction, incompatible existing grades, and conflicts with other uses during winter.
- Installing a shade structure is not recommended due to limited space available for construction and the ample shade provided by the mature canopy trees, particularly around the playground area.
- Playground rubber surfacing is not a City standard for community parks due to the high installation costs, shorter life cycle and higher operational requirements. The existing playground was replaced in 2023 with integrated accessibility improvements, including engineered wood fibre safety surfacing, which provides a significant improvement over sand for increased accessibility while still providing resiliency for falls.
Thank you, again, for your valued comments and participation in the public engagement for this community park improvement project. As always, please feel free to reach out at anytime if you have any questions regarding the above information or would like to discuss this further. Thank you kindly.
