Say NO to the Eckington Way Travellers Site

The Issue

We, the undersigned, formally request that Sheffield City Council find a more suitable location for the proposed travellers site currently proposed just off of Eckington Way in Beighton.

The proposal to place a second traveller site in Sheffield South East is both misguided and detrimental to the local community. Placing it in the heart of an established neighbourhood fails to properly take into account the logistical difficulties that we may have to face and instead opts for an unhelpful, disproportionate solution.

Eckington Way is a poor choice for such a development given the current traffic congestion. It would inevitably make an already chaotic situation even worse, as additional vehicles would have to manoeuvre through traffic jams and blockages on the main access road. This could lead to long delays and even hazards to drivers who need to use the route every day. Adding another massive development with its own influx of vehicles would only exacerbate these issues, and cause further disruption in an area where that’s the last thing needed

We also believe that Labour councillors who wrote the plan have failed to adequately communicate it with the community and allowed insufficient time for people to participate in the consultation process.

If Sheffield City Council are truly committed to finding an appropriate location for a new travellers site then there are far more suitable areas within our boundaries, ones which will give appropriate access to important amenities without putting unnecessary strain on existing communities.
