Franco-Ontarian Architectural Heritage

This building has a municipal heritage site designation and represents one of the few remaining vestiges of Franco-Ontarian architecture in southwestern Ontario. The site fully deserves to be considered both a 'national' historic site and a 'provincial' heritage property.

Demolition orders continue despite the discovery of new information that should be considered before any further work is carried out. There is ample evidence from parish and news archives that Father Pierre Fauteux, a priest who died in 1895, is buried under the church altar. These requests have been shared at municipal and diocesan levels, yet they have not been taken seriously, demonstrating no interest or respect for Franco-Ontarian ancestry and heritage. 

The French-speaking population of the southwest is a minority and is poorly supported in the conservation of its architectural heritage. This remarkable heritage building needs to be preserved and passed onto future generations, to ensure the region's Franco-Ontarian identity.
