Say NO to The City of Yes Housing Initiative
The Issue
The "City of Yes" Housing is a proposal by Mayor Eric Adams that would completely change all of New York City's zoning laws, making it cheaper to develop; and encouraging predatory practices against long-term homeowners and long-term apartment dwellers. The City of Yes Housing supports further eradication of people of African descent from the human fabric of New York City.
Developers have come into our communities and replaced truly affordable housing with market-rate, condominiums, and luxury apartments. Many of them have preyed on, harassed, and stolen homeowners' homes from them turning family homes into 8-10 apartments without parking. The City of Yes Housing will support this behavior, preventing community boards from pushing back because this to will be “as of right”.
Our city elected officials are not protecting us from this land grab by the mayor. They claim that this is the only way for New York to get the much-needed housing for those holding vouchers and living in homeless shelters. BUT the City of Yes Housing supports housing for $70,000 and higher, adding additions to private houses for family members even though it may impede the view of their neighbors. It will allow landlords to empty properties and redevelop them. No, they will not be obligated to give you your old apartment and you MUST WIN A LOTTERY to return!
Rent stabilized and think you are safe? False! Demolition is a loophole for destabilizing
Do you think there is already too much development and too little parking? Try imagining the number of people in our district DOUBLING - 150,000 more people - with no new parking in any of the new buildings! No new schools, sewers, parks, garbage collection, or other services because the city has determined there will be "no impact"! There will be no money for new services because all of these new buildings will pay no property taxes, thanks to the state legislatures' recent actions! Who will have to pay more taxes? There is already a lawsuit by the real estate industry to TRIPLE property taxes on individual homeowners and co-op and condo owners to force you to sell so developers or the ultra-wealthy can buy your home at a low price!
How can you stop this shocking land grab and erasure of our neighborhoods and neighbors?
