Dear Supporters,
We have two very important meetings next week - and we need a strong, united turnout to help protect Paris Mountain.
🟥 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗨𝗣 & 𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗗 – 𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗬 𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦
📍 Greenville County Government Center
301 University Ridge, Greenville, SC
🕕 Both meetings begin at 6:00 PM
🗓️ April 14 – Zoning Public Hearing
🗓️ April 15 – County Council Meeting (First Reading)
These meetings are about a proposed amendment to Section 8:5.8 of the zoning ordinance - a section that currently allows properties on Paris Mountain to revert to more intense zoning, such as multifamily residential, if access is provided from a road other than Altamont Road. SEE PROPOSED AMENDMENT HERE
This loophole undermines the original Environmentally Sensitive District – Paris Mountain (ESD-PM) zoning protections that were put in place in 1983 to safeguard the mountain’s steep slopes, water quality, and natural character.
The proposed amendment would remove this language and clarify that:
No development should bypass zoning protections just by rerouting access.
Paris Mountain’s protections are in place regardless of entry point.
This is a straightforward, much-needed fix that restores the original intent of the ESD-PM zoning. It protects the land from being exploited and ensures future development stays consistent with community values and long-term planning.
Let’s show Council that we support this amendment - and that the people are watching.
