Although it's not ideal to have koalas crossing busy roads into urban areas, they sometimes get lost, get adventurous, or simply just go looking for their own territory and instinct leads them here as generations before, particularly during breed season.  When they do, they need to have some "refuge" trees where they can seek shelter from cars, dogs and people, such as this tree at the corner of Elizabeth Avenue and King Street and await rescue from one of our amazing volunteer koala rescuers.

I took this photo in January last year.  Can you spot the little eyes shining high up in the gum tree?

If the pedestrian overpass is constructed this refuge tree, along with others, will be lost.
