While the world remains frantic about COVID-19, what is seldom mentioned, that coronaviruses have been around for quite a while. The pandemic was predicted by the CDC and many other health prevention organizations for years. It takes difficult times like what we are going through today to realize the importance of health. We all get bombarded with work and the pressures of life, but sometimes we don’t realize the impact of healthy living. It can make you or break you if unhealthy habits are ignored.
While obesity is on the rise, there is so little focus on the harmful effects of eating junk food and eating pigs and pork products. “Breathe the Bacon”, a commercial that runs regularly on mainstream television, promotes a disastrous sandwich that is actually poisoning your body. Eating junk food may leave you feeling good in a moment, but the reality is, fat makes you want to eat more fat. In one study, substituting pork for lean beef and chicken led to less body mass and better heart health. Does anyone speak of harm these junk chains are causing? No, because this type of cheap, harmful food is making restaurant chains and suppliers tons of money. Making it worse is that health organizations are routinely silenced by lobbyists. And why? Good business, that's why.
Now is the time for the world to wake up and raise our real concerns. This business of the harmful food supply chain needs to stop. Our leaders need to enact changes for a healthier society. Not only to protect our people, but also our economy, hunger, and climate.
Whether you want to face this reality or not, by eating pork, you are encouraging bad behavior. You are enabling the meat industry. In no slaughterhouse are pigs treated properly. Pigs were made to clean the junk from our environment. How did we become so ignorant? Our ancestors have warned us about the dangers of eating pork since the beginning of time. Eating pork leaves the door open for contracting trichinosis, an infection that humans get from eating undercooked pork that contains the larvae of the trichinella worm.
According to the American Heart Association: “We conclude strongly that lowering intake of saturated fat and replacing it with unsaturated fats, especially polyunsaturated fats, will lower the incidence of [cardiovascular disease].”
Would that be a good reason to think of healthier options for your diet? You should think again when you are gravitating toward those bacon (or pork) impulses. After all, during this unprecedented time, we may need to think harder on why COVID existed in the first place. Wait? Swine flu” really. Can you see the relevance here?
