Dear friends (amanha em PT) The fires in Moncique and Portimao are now under control and we now had some welcome rain too. Now to bring you up to date. We kicked off September with 3 days in Vila do Bispo at “Festa dos Percebes” (Sea food festival) organised by the Vila do Bispo Marisqueiros Association who gave us a double stand so we could collect signatures and talk to people about latest happenings. But indications are that in spite of the thousands of people opposing it, that the DGRM will go ahead and grant a licence to ENI/Galp. (NOTE: WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION) What this means is that WE HAVE TO INTENSIFY THE FIGHT against it. At the same time we must not forget the Repsol/Partex drilling nor the Portfuel saga (Fracking) … So what have we planned for the rest of September? 1. We going to be present on the following Sunday flea markets: Portimao, Ferragudo and Lagoa where we will once again be talking to people and collecting signatures for our main petition 2. On 20 September we going to be in Olhao debating the merits of cancelling the antiquated oil law that is currently underpinning all exploration contracts in an endeavour to call for its cancellation. We going to print and distribute another 30,000 A5 (4 pages) flyers in the Algarve directly to homes. (It is our way of by-passing the misinformation currently being spread by many Portuguese main stream media organisations - especially in the Algarve - and we will be reaching people directly) But to do what we have to do. We have to raise funds. We extremely grateful to all that have donated up until now, it was your donation that enabled us to do our work in total in August we raised 792.54 which was all applied to the fight. Currently our balance is 88,71€. Keep in mind that campaigning is NOT a cheap exercise and we fighting and gaining ground even with limited financial resources. Like I said we plan on printing and distributing another 30,000 petition forms and information flyers in A4 format.
