House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee Chair Ken Calvert declined to include the dangerous BLM language in the 2017 Interior Appropriations Bill. It was reported out of mark up without the language. However, U.S. Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) announced his intention to craft a "solution" to the wild horse "problem" in the next few weeks, indicating he will offer an amendment to the full Appropriations Committee. Rep. Stewart's "solution" is to have state's take over management of wild horses, thus bypassing the Congressional prohibition on slaughtering our national icons. Rep. Stewart's solution could be as bad as or worse than BLM's proposed budget language. Now is the time to demonstrate the will of the American public FOR protecting wild horses and AGAINST slaughtering them.
