We demand that the Music Center at Strathmore cancels the performance of Putin sympathizer Goran Bregović currently scheduled for March 9, 2023!

Bregović has repeatedly expressed support for Russia during its invasion of Ukraine.  He openly supported the occupation of Crimea in 2014 and defied international sanctions against Russia by holding a concert in Crimea in Sevastopol in 2015. He remains unapologetic. In February 2022, on the eve of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he performed in Moscow, cheering crowds with his song "Kalašnjikov" - a machine gun used by the Russian troops in Ukraine.

At a time when the US has formally accused Russia of crimes against humanity, Strathmore should not provide a platform for an artist who openly supports the Putin regime that violates human rights, including killing civilians, rape, abduction of children, and theft, as well as destruction amounting to the genocide of the Ukrainian people and culture.

Yesterday, President Biden visited Kyiv to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people. By canceling Bregović's performance, Strathmore can take a stand against the crimes against humanity committed by Russia and show solidarity with the Ukrainian people as well.
