<°((( (<>< ~ HELP US STOP DEEP-SEA MINING! ~ ><>) )))°>
2025 is an important year for the campaign to stop deep-sea mining. Our efforts over the past two years have been geared towards a pivotal meeting this month at the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in Kingston, Jamaica. Why?
1. Council members of the ISA decided in July 2023 that they would revisit a decision to open up the High Seas to mining in 2025.
2. The Metals Company, the company most aggressively pushing to mine the deep-sea has threatened time and again that they would submit their application to mine this year, and
3. Most recently the U.S. President signed an Executive Order to fast-track deep-sea mining in their own waters and on the High Seas.
Council members of the International Seabed Authority are currently meeting in Kingston, Jamaica to continue their technical discussions around deep-sea mining.
Following these discussions, the ISA Assembly will meet and determine once again whether to open up our shared heritage – The High Seas – to destructive deep-sea mining.
In 2023 we bought time for the deep sea. We MUST do that again! The fate of the deep sea will literally be determined in the weeks ahead. We live in uncertain times and we cannot afford to miss this crucial and historic meeting.
The Ocean and Us represents your voice, and the voice of all life in the ocean. We plan to be on the ground in Kingston but we need your help to get there.
👉🏽 Protect the deep sea by adopting a deep-sea wonder today! (clicking on take the next step does not support our work, only clicking here will).
Together we can stop a disaster before it begins!
