As the sun sets on 2024, I want to look back at the victories we achieved together and to thank you for your support in signing and sharing this petition! Your signature empowers our work!
In 2024, I was able to speak at 20 events on the opportunity to prevent the disaster of deep-sea mining, including the UN Decade of Ocean Science in Barcelona, the German Mission to the UN in New York, the European Parliament and the Caracol Museo de Ciencias in Baja, Mexico. I was also invited to speak on a number of podcasts and radio programs. When I speak at these events I know I am speaking on behalf of all 344,600 of you who have signed this petition!
This year we launched The Ocean Hope Expedition, with successful missions to the US, Mexico and in Europe, as well as several online events. Our core mission is to spread hope by preventing deep-sea mining from starting.
Tapping into culture through music, arts and sports we bring our message of Hope for the Ocean to new audiences.
In 2024 music legend Brian Eno joined our journey of hope, as did renowned sailor Boris Herrmann and his Team Malizia. Dutch sailor Rosalin Kuiper, musician and activist Donna Grantis, and multi award-winning conceptual artist Beatie Wolfe all joined The Ocean and Us as ambassador.
Big wins this include Norway's decision to suspend plans to mine their deep-sea. 32 countries now support a moratorium on deep-sea mining along with many companies & financial institutions. We have 28 endorsements of our declaration and almost 345,000 signatures of our petition.
But the battle isn't over. 2025 will be a crucial year for the campaign to stop deep-sea mining! Keep sharing this petition!
