Good news for the Ocean! This week, Hawaii announced a ban on deep-sea mining in their territorial waters. Hawaii has a deep connection to the ocean with historic, cultural and economic significance.
Why does this matter to deep-sea mining on the High Seas? The area that the miners want to target first is called the Clarion Clipperton Zone or CCZ. This area spans between Hawaii and Mexico. The waters of Mexico and Hawaii could be seriously impacted by mining activities in the CCZ. Pollution in the ocean (toxic sediment plumes, light and noise pollution) caused by deep-sea mining knows no borders.
Thank you Hawaii for speaking up!
To prevent the disaster that is deep-sea mining from starting, we must create global resistance fast. I urgently appeal to you to support The Ocean Hope Expedition. Give what you can so we can take the campaign on the road and to the people!
