The Court for the Ocean rules to protect the ocean from climate change

The International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea - the Court for the Ocean, ruled for the first time that nation states have an obligation to protect the ocean from climate-change related impacts.

This is HUGE news! A healthy ocean is our best defence against the climate crisis. But we know that life in the ocean is suffering. The ocean is warming, losing its oxygen content and acidifying. Over the past year, new temperature records are set daily in the ocean. Sea levels are rising as a result of greenhouse gas emissions, and many of us will suffer as a result. 

This ruling sets a precedent not just for greenhouse gas emissions but for all ocean related activities, and is another tool in our arsenal to stop deep-sea mining!
