We, the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago are deeply concerned about the impact of AI Data Centers on our national water supply, power grid and the environment. We are demanding that the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago reverses its recent decision to construct two AI Data Centers in Trinidad.

Firstly, Stanway, D., et al, Reuters, (3rd June, 2026) reports that AI Data Centers will double their consumption of power and water by the year 2030. By the end of 2025, data centres consumed 448 terawatt-hours of electricity ​worldwide, exceeding figures from the entirety of Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile in Trinidad and Tobago, thousands of people struggle to access water to support their households and the national power grid has had a history of service disruptions throughout the year. In areas such as Freeport and Penal, Trinidad, water is provided by the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) on a weekly basis. Six out of seven days each week, Trinidadians monitor their water usage due to the already insufficient supply of water. Constructing AI Data Centers will negatively impact our nation's power grid and it's supply of water. 

Secondly, Feldscher, K (8th April, 2026) reported, "Fine particulate matter is estimated to drive nearly 90% of the health impacts from air pollution and is often not captured in traditional energy or climate assessments or incorporated into infrastructure planning decisions." In reference to AI Data Centers, these structures emit harmful particulate matter into the atmosphere which progressively worsens the air quality in surrounding areas. As a result, there will be an increase in respiratory problems from neighboring communities.

Thirdly, Yañez-Barnuevo, M. (23rd March, 2026) highlights noise pollution caused by AI Data Centers. Typically, AI Data Centers utilize on-site power generators to reduce their dependence on the national power grid. These generators use diesel and gasoline combustion engines. Similarly to internal combustion engines found in motor vehicles, such equipment are known to produce noises exceeding 65 decibels. Noises past the 65 decibel threshold cause sleep deprivation, decreased cognitive performance, elevated stress levels and increased blood pressure upon exposure. Especially at night, constant exposure to noise at such levels harm humans in surrounding areas as well as native wildlife.

In essence, we the citizens urge the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to revoke its decision to construct AI Data Centers in Trinidad. As expressed in our appeal, AI Data Centers will deplete our already struggling water infrastructure and power grid, and pose a threat to our environment.
