Four Marks and Medstead villages - 20-minute neighbourhood! ?

Ode 

East Hampshire Council have a novel idea,

Let’s remove peoples cars and leave them in fear,

By upgrading the footpaths, you will be able to hike,

Or dig out your latex and get on your bike,

You can walk to the shops, it will take you ten minutes,

As long as you’re a crow and can fly without limits,

Leave your car at your doorstep and get on a bus,

There’s one every day, what’s all the fuss,

We are saving the planet hip hip hooray,

So, get with the programme without any delay,

There is only one problem with this little wheeze,

We live in the countryside with snow and with breeze,

The roads are not even, there are plenty of hills,

On a cold rainy day, the wind it really chills,

From the Council’s perspective, this all looks very good,

They can now build more houses on pasture and wood,

The boxes are ticked, we have our housing number,

Fast forward ten years, generations will wonder,

Where is our countryside, what happened to the trees,

The pleasant green farmland, the cows that made cheese,

The world that our parents loved with such joy,

Has disappeared forever, the idea was a ploy,

The planners are retired, the developers have emigrated,

Our green and pleasant land, decimated,

All is not lost, don’t be hoodwinked this way,

Stand UP for Medstead and have your say,

Let’s keep Medstead Rural there’s plenty at stake,

We owe it to our children, for goodness sake.
