RESIDENTS OF FOUR MARKS & MEDSTEAD WE NEED YOUR HELP! TRAVEL SURVEY

East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) are currently consulting on their emerging Local Plan. One of the background papers they have used is a revised “Settlement Hierarchy” document which is a key guide to how much development a settlement can take. It basically ranks all the settlements in East Hampshire depending on what facilities/services they have and how accessible they are by walking/cycling. The higher up the hierarchy ladder you are the more sustainable you are considered to be and therefore have the capacity to take more development.

Four Marks and Medstead (FM & M) have now been moved up the hierarchy from a Tier 3 settlement to a Tier 2, thus potentially opening up our villages to even more house building over and above what we have endured over the last 10 years.

The facilities, employment opportunities and infrastructure of both villages have not kept pace with the ever increasing housing numbers and a substantial number of people already commute out of the area for their jobs. Therefore making this settlement already unsustainable. Additionally, our two local schools are sited in locations that are difficult and often dangerous to walk to.

SMASH (Stand with Medstead Against Speculative Housing) would therefore like to collect some current local data to submit to the Council in order to argue our case that we should not have been moved up the hierarchy as we are not a sustainable location but are very car dependent one.

We would really appreciate it if you could spend a few minutes filling out this short survey.

Thank you for your support.
