The Issue

Mass Effect is beloved by millions worldwide for its immersive sci-fi universe and the story of Commander Shepard and the Normandy crew. BioWare, the Edmonton studio that spent more than 30 years making influential role-playing games, built this universe.

On October 21, 2026, EA announced BioWare's closure and the end of development on the next Mass Effect. We stand with the developers who built this series and everyone at BioWare who lost their jobs. Their work shaped both Mass Effect and the genre, and it deserves to continue.

Fans worldwide have invested countless hours exploring the galaxy and connecting with Mass Effect's complex characters and storylines. The series has fostered a community that values choice, individuality, and shared adventure. Ending development would be a significant loss for fans and for the diversity of narrative-driven games.

We urge EA to act decisively by committing to continued development of Mass Effect. This requires sufficient funding, staffing, and time to uphold the franchise's high standards. Alternatively, EA could license the Mass Effect IP to another studio with the passion and vision to carry on its legacy.

Both options provide a path forward. By supporting the continued growth of the Mass Effect universe, EA would preserve a valued part of gaming history and maintain its cultural and emotional impact on players worldwide.

Regardless of the path chosen, Mass Effect's future should honor the vision of the developers who built it: its world, its characters, and its focus on meaningful player choice. We encourage whoever continues the series to give former BioWare developers the chance to take part. Their experience and insight would help preserve the series' heart.

Join us in securing the future of the Mass Effect universe by signing and sharing this petition. Let EA know how important this series is and how much we want its journey to continue. Sign today to keep the spirit of exploration alive.
