Our popular town centre soft play centre is under threat of closure in the new year unless extortionate business rates in the town are reduced.

This relatively new soft play centre has helped draw more families into the town centre & is very popular with local families. The centre holds host to many birthday parties, social gatherings, runs an autism friendly session & is the host of this year’s town centre Santa’s Grotto, yet this is all under threat as the business owners struggle to meet the demand of their business rates.

In a statement published by the owners this morning, they quote nearby Poundland, covering 30,000 square foot of retail space as only being charged at a rate of £107,000, yet YumYum World at 16,000 square foot is £139,000! It does not make any sense & is clearly an incorrect valuation.

People wonder why our town centre is emptying out or filling with charity shops & coffee chains, yet the greed of the government is pricing businesses out! 

This injustice needs to be addressed & I hope the people of Rugby get behind the owners of YumYum to help support this.
