The Workshop Pub has been a cornerstone of our young adult lives—a welcoming spot where we could enjoy a drink, listen to the jukebox, and meet a diverse array of people. This bar is more than just a business; it's woven into the cultural fabric of Hout Bay. It serves as a melting pot where individuals from all walks of life, ages, races, and religions come together, truly embodying the spirit of the rainbow nation.

Closing the bar would not only strip away the jobs of dedicated staff members like Jacob, Norman, Tatenda, Clive, and Papi the bouncer—who have always looked out for everyone’s best interests—but also erase a place of trust and community. I once lost my wallet there, and when I returned the next day, it was safely kept for me with nothing missing. I've even hosted work events at the pub.

They are not being allowed to renew their lease apparently due to noise complaints. However, noisy bars are an accepted part of urban life in Europe. Why should Hout Bay be any different, especially when there are few residents in the vicinity? The Workshop Pub is also a tourist attraction, known as 'The Smallest Bar in Africa'—even UB40 visited!—and the only place in Cape Town to get a brandy coke for R28. Why take this away from us?
