It's nearly the end of the third working week since the tree vigil started. With the 31st January within touching distance (when our tree was originally required to be felled by), it's high time for another update.

Things have been challenging this week communications-wise owing to confidential discussions ongoing. However, we still feel positive and hope that things can move forward constructively in days to come

For now, some light touch updates:

  • Our petition now stands at more than 4000 signatures!
  • We have raised more than 1/3 of our funding goal on Crowdfunder, but we are still a good £13k off our target.
  • Thank you to the Wivenhoe Society for a very generous donation of £500. We will be sure to make good use of these funds, and everything we've been given. Every little helps, please do consider chipping in if you are able
  • Talking of chips, on Tuesday night a group of Woodchips from our Woodcraft folk group made placards and chanted 'save our trees' on procession down the high street. They then had bananas and hot chocolate at the tree, where they used their hands and footsteps to measure its magnitude. For all who attended it was a special moment.
  • Today ITV Anglia have been spending time at the tree doing recorded segments and live feature, with the effort to save the tree featured from 6.10pm on this evening's news.
  • This morning we understand that Wivenhoe Town Council held a confidential meeting to discuss the tree.and car park. We have yet to hear any more information. We believe that things are still as positive as our last update. We trust that there'll be more news to follow very soon.

While we wait for more information, please do continue to support our efforts. We will write again when we can do. For now, thanks everyone for everything.
