This update takes a slightly different tone from previous ones (shorter, you may be relieved to hear!), as I will take the opportunity to share the agreed statement from today's meeting between the campaign to save the Old King George tree(s) and Wivenhoe Town Council.

Statement from the campaign to Save Wivenhoe's Old King George Oak tree meeting with Wivenhoe Town Council 24/01/25

"We are pleased to report the positive meeting held between Wivenhoe Town Council and the Save the Old King George Oak Tree campaign on a confidential basis today. We hope to be able to confirm an agreed way forward in the next week.

In the meantime we will be busy working in the background to find a solution. At this time, we ask for calm and respect from both sides whilst we await further news."

Pictured is some of the campaign team with Paul Powlesland our barrister at the tree at lunchtime today as he visited for the meeting with the council. I'd like to thank Paul for his ongoing support, alongside all those supporting this petition, the campaign and Crowdfunder. It was great to have the opportunity to meet in person.
