Winlaw Officially Off Chopping Block!

A message from Eden DuPont, Chair - Winlaw Elementary Parent Advisory Committee: "On Tuesday night, the Kootenay Lake School Trustees unanimously passed a motion to accept Rural Education Enhancement Funding for the 2017-2018 and subsequent fiscal years for Winlaw Elementary School. To the resounding relief of our community, this means the Board is not planning to close Winlaw Elementary School at this time. Many attendees at this Special Open Board Meeting were of the opinion that the incredible passion and dedication of Winlaw’s community members was a driving force behind this decision. We are grateful to each and every individual that contributed to the efforts required to lobby our trustees to refrain from making such an irreversible decision that would have catapulted our rural community into decline. Thank you for signing this petition, which helped our voices be heard at both the District and Provincial levels. While the imminent risk of school closure has passed for our community, we still need to continue to pressure our Provincial Government to adequately invest in education. Stable, sustainable funding is essential for the benefit of our children in every school, in every district. Please write your local MLA today and let tell them we need to prioritize education in this province. "
