Save Wilmington's Beloved Skatepark from Becoming a Parking Lot

Save Wilmington's Beloved Skatepark from Becoming a Parking Lot
The Issue
We all grew up at this skatepark in Wilmington, California. It is our sanctuary, a place we watched being built from the ground up. Prior to its existence, there was no safe place for skateboarders in our community. Now, it's under threat of being turned into a parking lot - an addition that is not needed in our area.
The skatepark has been more than just a recreational facility; it has been a home to us and many others who have found solace and camaraderie within its boundaries. It has provided us with an outlet for creativity, physical activity and social interaction.
According to the American Planning Association (APA), parks like ours contribute significantly to community cohesion and youth development. They also report that well-maintained parks increase property values nearby - something that can't be said for parking lots.
Moreover, the National Recreation and Park Association states that public parks provide an estimated $140 billion per year in direct U.S economic activity - much more than any potential revenue from additional parking spaces.
We urge you not only as skateboarders but as members of this community who care deeply about preserving what makes Wilmington unique. Let's save our beloved skatepark from becoming another unnecessary parking lot! Please sign this petition today!
