Dear Friends of Walker's Cafe,

We want to be clear: A nearly 4,000 sf development may serve the developer's best interests, but it would be the death knell for Walker's Cafe.

On the few occasions Prospect Group's lawyers have presented to our neighborhood council, time and again folks showed up en masse to say: This development is too big. You're not prioritizing the cafe.

And yet the square footage for the project has only grown. 

This isn't some theoretical conversation about housing. This is about the oldest restaurant in San Pedro, a prized historic landmark that's been a part of our community for a century. 

If this project does not include explicit protections for Walker's Cafe, odds are the cafe will never reopen.

Here's what we're advocating for:
1) A smaller residential development in the back that allows the developer to profit while giving the cafe the space it needs to function. 
2) A special planning condition (called a "Q condition") that the historic cafe must remain operational. 
3) No breaking ground on the house in the back until the restoration of the cafe is well underway. Walker's comes first!
