Dear Friends of Walker's Cafe,
Some news: There's an informational Cultural Heritage Commission hearing coming up TOMORROW, Thursday 8/17 at 10 am where the new owners will present renderings to get feedback on their plans. While they are proposing repairs to the cafe, it looks like they're more interested in seeing the parcel redeveloped with a house and ADU in the alley. Obviously, residential development is very time-consuming and expensive, but we really want to see the cafe reopened and we're eager to know when this is going to happen.
This hearing is a good opportunity to let them know how important it is to us to see the cafe reopened with a new operator as a tenant, which they stated was their original intention. Now is the time to let them know that we're all still waiting for them to bring our favorite cafe back. Let's get the word out!
The meeting is tomorrow at 10 am and can be attended in person at La City Hall (Room 1010) or on Zoom at https://planning-lacity-org.zoom.us/j/83398650745 USE MEETING ID: 833 9865 0745 AND PASSCODE 174370. (The meeting agenda is available here.) People will have an opportunity to raise their hand, virtually or in person, under agenda item 4, and speak for one minute. This is a good time to share your view as a long-time patron and San Pedro resident and tell them that we love Walkers and want to see it come back. The Cultural Heritage Commission has a great deal of authority in directing the owners how to move forward, so it's important to let them know our thoughts.
