Save Utah School Programs: DLI, Concurrent Enrollment, GATE, Mental Health Support etc.

The Issue

PLEASE READ AND SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL PROGRAMS!  Senator Lincoln Fillmore has proposed bill SB102 to Utah legislation and it is currently listed as a "favorable recommendation." While his office claims that the bill would only have the programs under "regular review", The wording of the bill is deceptive. It states that there would be "Sundowning" dates, meaning to have the following programs lose funding or have that funding reallocated by 2027, and no later than 2029:

*Dual Immersion

*Concurrent Enrollment funding

*Student mental health and counseling support

*Enhancement for accelerated student programs (GATE programs)

This is to name a few!

We are reaching out in a plea to act before this bill wreaks havoc on the demographic we hold most dear: our children, our students, and our future. The potential dismantling of these programs isn't about curbing a few educational advantages; it is the profound lasting negative impact that would result. It would mean fewer students being able to earn college credit, because of the thousands of dollars that concurrent enrollment classes save them in college tuition and fees. The elevated critical thinking and creativity that our future generations could gain from dual immersion would be lost, as well as the compassion and mutual respect gained from the cultures of those various languages.  The mental health support provided in schools is currently the only option for some students, withholding that from them is setting them up to fail before they even begin.

We cannot sit idly by as Bill SB102 threatens to dismantle these invaluable resources. We beg you to sign the petition, reach out to your representative and school districts and especially email Sen Fillmore DIRECTLY at lfillmore@le.utah.gov.  It’s time we raise our voices and take action. Sign this petition and shield our essential education programs from being erased.
