Public input and the objections of the Snoqualmie Tribe have not gone unnoticed by WA DNR. Commissioner Upthegrove has announced that the South Paw Timber Sale will be cancelled! He has also committed to including South Paw in the 77,000 acres intended for conservation. 

Here are two quotes from Commissioner Upthegrove at an Issaquah Alps Trails Club forum last Wednesday- 

“South Paw is going to be included in the 77,000 acres that are conserved. I made a commitment standing with that group of people and I intend to honor that commitment.” 

“I know there are folks who want me to do more. I know there are folks who want me to do this faster, and I am using my best skills and abilities to advance the greatest amount of conservation in the ways that I believe are achievable, and that will not involve cutting down South Paw.”

This announcement is huge! I will email Commissioner Upthegrove with this petition and thank him for saving this forest. I will also ask when South Paw will be removed from the timber sale list, and when the next iteration of the 77,000 acres of conservation will be published. 

Once those two items are complete, we will declare victory on this petition!

There are multiple timber sales scheduled across Tiger Mountain over the next 6 years.  The cancellation of the South Paw Timber Sale shows us what is possible when we make our voices heard. Please stay tuned for future campaigns on Tiger Mountain!
