Save thousands of homeless people- support for more funding

The issue

In 2013, the total social and Indigenous housing and homelessness funding was $2 billion. Accounting for inflation and population growth that funding should have grown to $2.7 billion. However, in 2023, the Federal Government has only budgeted $1.6 billion – a real reduction in value of $1.1 billion. This funding cut leads to a decrease in the amount of help that homeless people receive, with many government shelters being shut down. According to an interview with people who run such a shelter, the number one barrier towards providing help wasn't uncooperation or addiction, but funding which leads to less resources such as beds that are available.
