AFTER we hit the 2,000 signature mark with the Save the Writer petition (a big Thank You to all who signed), I pulled back from promoting it, due to A.) the intrusions of life, and B.) a realization that the issue was much bigger than the proper labeling of books. (This point was underscored this past week by the announcement of a new $500 billion AI project, which will require "colossal data centers," which no doubt will lead to enormous water consumption-- water which belongs to everybody-- and energy use.)
Anyway, here are two necessary links on the larger AI issue. If you can circulate them around it'd be great.
1.) Remmelt Ellen is a leading expert on the AI issue, having studied the subject upside down and sideways. He's written a short book, Artificial Bodies, which is a primer on AI. The book is available here.
2.) Recently I was contacted by a group of intelligent individuals who've put together a set of eye-opening documents describing the larger picture: what the Venture Capitalists behind the AI push are up to, and what their larger goals are. I know nothing about the individuals who put the analysis together, but feel it might be important. The documents are available here. (Is the analysis itself extreme? Judge for yourself.)
Feel free to distribute both of these links to whoever might be interested.
Thanks!
