The Triad Still Stands. Let’s Keep It Standing.

The Triad still stands. Now we must speak up for its future.
We began this effort in 2025, and the Triad of Trees continues to stand. It has weathered the storms and the US 23 interchange project. James Seney Park remains and the Triad stands as a beacon of resilience. It is a reminder of the trees, history, and public art that make Sylvania special.
But will it continue to stand?
In 2025, Sylvania Arts formed a committee to explore the Triad’s future. I served on that committee and helped identify multiple potential restoration providers. There are options to repair and preserve this cherished piece of public art.
The committee’s final report outlined two paths: restore the Triad for an estimated $25,000 to $50,000, or replace it with newly commissioned artwork at an estimated $150,000 to $250,000.
Neither the committee nor the Sylvania Arts board reached consensus on a path forward.
The City’s arts commission is charged with providing ongoing inspection, care, and advice for our public art. How can removing a cherished piece that has stood in our community since 1988 remain an option when restoration is possible? Why haven’t we come together around preserving something that holds so much meaning and history for so many of us?
The report is expected to go before City Council. As of the latest update, I have not received confirmation of when it will be considered or whether the discussion will begin in committee.
Now we must make sure our elected representatives hear us.
They need to know how much the Triad means to this community. They need to understand that the restoration estimates are substantially lower than the estimates for replacement. And they need to hear that we want to preserve this piece of Sylvania’s history.
Please share this petition and spread the word. I will update you when a meeting or decision date is confirmed, including when and where you can show up and speak.
Be a voice for the Triad. A voice for our trees. A voice for public art.
Let us allow the final standing trees to shine again.
