The Taughannock Summer Concert series began in 1979 (2024 would be its 45th year) and is a beloved community event in Trumansburg, Tompkins County. In 2023, the Taughannock Falls State Park leadership announced that the series was cancelled 'due to budgetary concerns.' It will not continue unless we make our voices heard. Please help us save the concert series! 

Traditionally, the series occurs on 7 Saturday evenings in July and August and showcases regional musicians to a multi-generational audience that gathers on the lakeside for a picnic, glass of wine, music, and dance. It benefits our community in so many ways.

It provides low-cost open-air access to the arts and it embodies the casual, Ithaca vibe that attracts visitors to the area in the summer. Admission has been only $5 for a car and NYS Park data shows it regularly attracts 500-1000 visitors. Local events that bring the community together in fun ways regardless of political beliefs are important to our democracy.  

A group of community members who have been working on fundraising and planning for the event have been told by the Sim Redmond Band, The Gunpoets, Maddy and the Blind Spots, Li’l Anne and the Hot Cayenne that they would love to play in 2024 and it’s their favorite venue. But it will not happen without NYS Parks’ agreement.

We ask Governor Hochul and NYS Parks Commissioner Erik Kulleseid and his leadership team to continue sponsoring the Taughannock Falls Summer Concert Series on Saturday nights in 2024 as they have for the last four decades. 

Governor Hochul, in your swearing in ceremony you said "I want people to believe in their government again". We want you to know that this traditional community concert series should NOT be arbitrarily cancelled by NYS administrators.
