Save the Taiga! Urgent Measures Against Wildfires in Siberia and the Russian Far East

The Issue

To:

The Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, EMERCOM of Russia, and the Federal Forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz)

We, citizens of Russia and concerned inhabitants of our shared planet,

demand the immediate implementation of a comprehensive program to protect the Russian taiga, in light of an alarming forecast from the international scientific community. A recent study led by Professor Shi Long and a group of Chinese researchers predicts that, under the worst-case scenario (SSP5-8.5), the number of wildfires worldwide could increase by 73.7% by the year 2100 due to global warming.

🔥 Siberia and the Russian Far East are already burning by the millions of hectares every year.

🔥 Nature is perishing. People breathe smoke. Infrastructure and lives are under threat.

To prevent irreversible damage, we call for the following specific and actionable steps to be taken immediately:

🔹 Divide the taiga into fire-control quadrants

Create a network of firebreaks and all-weather roads to slow down and contain fires.

🔹 Establish permanent mobile forest guard units

Equip these settlements with housing, communication systems, drones, and emergency response vehicles — operating year-round in the most at-risk regions.

🔹 Deploy early detection systems powered by AI and satellite data

Invest in space-based thermal imaging and artificial intelligence to detect and predict wildfire outbreaks.

🔹 Conduct sanitary logging and strategic thinning

Actively remove deadwood and reduce fuel loads in forests to prevent mega-fires.

🔹 Educate and mobilize the population

Inspire civic involvement, create incentives for forest protection, and instill environmental awareness through schools and media.

🌍 We cannot stand by as the largest forest on Earth burns due to negligence.

🇷🇺 Russia must become a global leader in environmental protection — not a hotspot of climate disaster.

Sign, share, and support this initiative. The taiga is not just forest — it is our future.
