This morning, a high court judge granted full permission for a judicial review against Lambeth Council's planning decision to allow the Garden Bridge to be built. Michael Ball had bought about the legal challenge in January but the court ruled that only one of the two points that he had raised was worth pursuing i.e. ruined heritage views. However with the excellent counsel of David Forsdick QC and Richard Stein of Leigh Day, the judge ruled that the judicial review would go ahead on both grounds i.e. it seems Lambeth Council have unlawfully granted permission without due consideration to the ongoing maintenance costs if the Trust fails in its obligations or goes bankrupt. Westminster Council made it a condition that a guarantor be secured before construction could go ahead on the north side, but Lambeth have failed to protect its constituents and indeed Londoners from any outstanding costs if the money can't be found. The hearing will take place in June. Speaking of money, Michael still needs your help to continue with this case; if everyone who signed this petition just gave a fiver (or more!) then we'd get much closer to really stopping this vanity project.
