A few quick facts about the Snow River Dam Project:
-3 Dams in total will be built
-The Reservoir must be 1200' in order to produce the stated power - this will engulf Lower Paradise Lake and 5,321 acres of public lands!
-Dams are not Sustainable! - Meriam Webster's definition of "sustainable" - (A method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged) - Dams both deplete and permanently damage a river system
-Dams produce Methane gas equivalent to 7.5 billion tonnes of CO2
-Chugach Electric built a gas-fired plant 4 years ago and now is complaining that there is a dwindling gas supply (even though they look out 10-30 years when planning these projects)
-Multiple studies have been done on the Snow River to assess it's feasibility for hydropower and every single study has given concrete reasons why it is not a good idea!
-The Snow River is recommended as Wild and Scenic - the highest level of federal protection rivers in the U.S. receive - Less than 1/4 of 1% of rivers are special enough to receive this designation
-Dam costs are often underestimated by 46%
-The Susitna dam was estimated to cost $5.2 billion dollars
-Chugach Electric is spending $1,000,000 of ratepayer's money to investigate the Snow River Dams
The facts and absurdities go on and on and on. We hope you join us tomorrow and Tuesday to expose Chugach Electric's complete lack of innovation and attention to the REAL problems they have as a utility and the real problems of the entire Railbelt Utility System!!
Thank you for your support!!
