Petition updateSave the Snow River!
Stop Chugach Electric From building 3 massive dams!!
**Snow River Dam Update** **Notes From Chugach Electric Meeting**

Peninsula Rivers Conservancy

Apr 7, 2017
Last evening (4/6/2017), 3 board members from Peninsula Rivers Conservancy along with several other NGO's, attended a presentation by Chugach Electric about their Snow River Dam Project.
Phil Styer, Paul Risse and Mike Brodie gave the presentation for Chugach Electric.
First and foremost, we want you to know that we represent you, a growing number of petitioners (currently 1631) who strongly oppose this dam project. We voiced your concerns and the concerns we have as an organization. Frankly, we felt that Chugach Electric dismissed our comments and positions as "opinion." They have also done very little research about the details of their own "concept." It was also disturbing for them to tell us that "it's not really 3 dams as some organizations have pointed out." As if 3 massive walls designed to hold water back aren't DAMS!
With that being said, we want you to know that Chugach Electric is very serious about spending a lot of money and time to investigate this project. If you are a Chugach Electric customer, you should be appalled that they are willing to spend $1,000,000.00 of your money to investigate this "concept," as they put it. Chugach Electric plans to spend this enormous amount of your money to study a dam project and Snow River Corridor that has been studied in the 1950s, 1961(USGS), 1965(Bureau of Reclamation), 1979(CH2M-Seward), 1980(Alaska Power Administration), 2002(Chugach National Forest Land Management Plan-Snow River Recommended as Wild and Scenic), 2005(Snow River Landscape Assessment) and 2015 and 2017(Revised Chugach National Forest Land Management Plan).
To spend a million dollars doing "reconnaissance," as they termed it, and studies that have already been done, is a major waste of time and money. Literally, anyone can spend an hour on google and find all the information they would gather by doing their own research.
In light of Chugach Electric's willingness to spend this enormous sum and not even do the research about the Snow River's history is a testament to their ignorance about the research that exists and also how special the Snow River Corridor is.
Chugach Electric is holding 2 information sessions soon, and if you're are as appalled as we are that they would even suggest a dam on the Snow River, let alone waste your money and time, please join us!
