The Issue

This petition is on behalf of Rick Polizzi and his family, Sherman Oaks resident and three-time Emmy winning Simpsons producer, whose famed treehouse – a centerpoint of the neighborhood and the former highlight of his legendary Boney Island Halloween event – is about to be pulled down due to a dispute with a neighbor and the LA Dept. of Building & Safety.

The incredible treehouse was designed and hand-built 2001, for the Polizzis’ two young daughters.  It’s situated between a triangle of sweet gum trees planted in the 1940s - turning folk art into folk architecture. Over the years, it has become a local landmark of sorts, featured on multiple television shows including America’s Got Talent and Treehouse Masters. The treehouse has also been featured in a Make-A-Wish Foundation commercial and has hosted numerous law enforcement and safety officials over the years that have stopped by to say hello and check it out for themselves.

The treehouse has been nothing but a positive icon in the neighborhood and a beacon of goodwill for over 20 years and now it has only three weeks left unless the Department of Building and Safety choose to drop their case against the family.

We’re hoping to make as much noise as possible in the next three weeks before it is too late and it has to be destroyed. The family has already spent over $40k in permits, and they are now on the cusp of giving up.

Please help us to help them and our community to preserve this beloved icon!
