City Council Meeting on Tuesday, March 12th @ 4:30 at City Hall:
Please fill out a speaker card at the beginning of the meeting. The following is a suggestion if you only say one thing and do not want to speak further:
I am opposed to the Zoning Change for the Safe Place to Park at the Cultural Park property.
Below are suggestions of talking points and topics to reinforce your opposition to the zoning change:
- I believe in addressing homelessness, but oppose the Safe Place to Park on the Cultural Park property. Right idea, wrong location.
- Our Amphitheater should be a hub for cultural enrichment, community engagement, and revenue generation. Save the Cultural Park and find an alternative location for the Safe Place to Park and affordable housing.
- The shift in music industry revenue favors live performances, making the Amphitheater renovation financially viable. Amphitheaters are being built all across the country with private/public partnerships to earn revenue for their cities and provide cultural enrichment for their communities. We have an Amphitheater that only needs renovation. Our Amphitheater was ahead of its time and it’s time is now!
- In addition, renovation of the Amphitheater will shift visitation to the underused summer season for our business community.
- Our Sedona Amphitheater is poised for success with citizen ownership and strategic management. For example, The Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado earned $14 Million dollars for the City of Denver and more than $700 Million for the Denver and Colorado economy.
- Revenue from the renovated Amphitheater should be and can be earmarked to fund workforce housing.
- The City owns properties more suitable & sustainable for workforce housing. The Dells property outside city limits but just a stone’s throw away is a viable option.
- The Dells Conceptual Master Plan integrates workforce housing with regenerative farming, pastures, ponds, produce stands, an art center, and American Indian museum. Please consider this alternative.
- The Dells plan fosters sustainable land use, community resilience, and celebrates cultural heritage.
- Co-development of the Cultural Park and the Dells properties aligns with community plans and work groups' recommendations.
- City Council, you have chosen to ignore the voice of the community - two petitions opposed to the Safe Place to Park at the Cultural Park, one with 7,400 signatures and one with 500 signatures. Open your eyes to the fact that the community wants to house our workforce in a humane and affordable way, but not at the Cultural Park. Look at your other options and give the community both a Cultural Park and Amphitheater and affordable housing.
- I urge City Council to reassess this proposal, prioritize solutions honoring dignity for the homeless and cultural revitalization for the community. Both can be achieved.
Together we can make a real difference in preserving our Cultural Park and Amphitheater!
Thank you for being an integral part of our collective effort,
Sedona Cultural Park 2.0 Board of Directors
