Petition updateSave the Sea of Cortez: no gas (LNG), no ammonia, no methanol. All of them, together.

New evidence at the US DOE, a court win, and 35+ groups united

Thank you! We are now 34. Here is what your support has helped move this week:

  1. New evidence before the US Department of Energy. On 29 October we filed a motion to intervene and protest against Amigo LNG's request to extend its export deadline to 2029 (Docket 20-31-LNG), and on 5 November we added new evidence of serious, documented inconsistencies.

2. A court win in Mexico. On 13 October a federal court ordered Mexico's oil and gas regulator (ASEA) to void Amigo LNG's environmental authorization.

3. One voice. More than 35 organizations in Mexico and the US now have a shared roadmap to protect the Sea of Cortez, and joint letters to the banks and buyers behind these projects are open for signature.

Why now: the Gulf of California is a UNESCO World Heritage site in danger, and Mexico must report to UNESCO by 1 February 2027. These projects would run on Texas gas and bring about 1,146 tanker crossings a year (Alliance estimate) through whale habitat.

Please share this petition with one more person today. Every signature counts.
