Hello!
Thank you once again for supporting Save the Saracens Group, and our bid to re-list the Saracens Head pub as an Asset of Community Value.
I’m pleased to say the official nomination to Dover District Council has been submitted. It’s an 8-week process, and I’m guessing they will do a consultation with local neighbours as part of that. I think we’ve put forward a good case, but there have been noise issues in the past which may count against us.
I’m also pleased to say that the support from the community as a whole has been very strong indeed, and, amongst others, we have the support of North Deal Councillor Susan Beer; local brewery Time & Tide; The Prince Albert pub on Alfred Square; and The Fryer Tuck fish and chip shop on College Road – all of which will significantly reinforce our case.
While we sit-out the 8 weeks for a decision, I expect there will be a Change of Use planning application submitted to turn it from a pub to residential. Once that is live on Dover’s website, we will have the opportunity to object. I will be in touch in due course on this, with tips on how to object and which points are likely to succeed as an objection, and which aren’t.
In the meantime, please do continue to spread the word, and I will of course carry on promoting and and try to build more local momentum for this.
All the best
Ian
