SAVING THE REDWOOD TREE DURING MAGNOLIA RENOVATIONS

The Town held meetings to discuss Magnolia Renovations, including prior discussions about tree removal options.  However, based on relatively sparse attendance including advocates for expanding the community garden plots, it was decided to cut this magnificent and mature tree which most were not aware is a rare Dawn Redwood.  This tree creates a beautiful vista at the east-northeast end of Magnolia field, marking the entrance to the playground and while it does create shade over the end of the community garden areas, its beauty is enjoyed by hundreds of people each week.  At the time the renovation plans were posted, nothing on them indicated to the public that the Redwood tree was to be cut down.

The Town is under great pressure to complete the renovation already planned this summer; therefore, a solution is needed to enable the project to move forward while preserving this majestic tree for all to enjoy.  We support proceeding with the Magnolia renovation plans with the exception of removing the Redwood tree.
