Save the Red Car Trolleys at Disney California Adventure Park!

The Issue

The Red Car Trolley attraction at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim is a beloved attraction adding to the ambience and theming of Buena Vista Street, and since its opening along with the land in 2012, it remains an integral and iconic attraction at Disney California Adventure.

We are excited to see the expansion of Avengers Campus and the addition of more much-needed E-Ticket attractions at California Adventure, and although we understand that nothing ever lasts forever, we would like to see Disney reconsider permanently removing the Red Car Trolley, and perhaps relocate or build a new shed where the trolleys can go.

The Red Car Trolley, although definitely not the first attraction that comes to mind, is a nice sight to see as one walks down the 1920s and 1930s-inspired streets at California Adventure. The trolley pays homage to the Pacific Electric cars that ran throughout Los Angeles before their demise as a result of the auto industry, portrayed in movies such as Disney's classic "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". The removal of these Red Cars parallels what Judge Doom wanted to do in that movie.

The trolleys were an essential part of Los Angeles in the early 20th century, and Buena Vista Street reflects that era and location as seen in the eyes of Walt Disney, who had likely rode more than one when he first arrived in the summer of 1923 to begin his filmmaking career. This is similar to the many vehicular attractions on Main Street, USA. Despite those attractions not being popular, they still play a role of setting the scene of the land.

Another reason for not permanently removing the attraction is the leftover track that will most likely continued to be seen by many as they walk through the park. This echoes the demise of the Peoplemover in Tomorrowland across the esplanade. The track that stretches around the land has been vacant since the early 2000s, with many still wondering what will become of a once beloved attraction.

Ultimately, we ask Disney to reconsider permanently removing the Red Car Trolley. We ask to see if they can consider building a new trolley shed elsewhere, and keep the trolleys running in the future. We hope the new generation can see the original vision of Buena Vista Street, and learn of the backstory of Walt Disney's love of California.
