Save the Postal Service in Pegasus Town.

The issue

One of the conveniences of living in Pegasus is the easy access to postal services right at the Pegasus General Store.

It means that any of the 4,260 residents can send letters and packages without any hassle. Now, with the announcement that New Zealand Post plans to remove this service, residents will find it difficult to access the nearest postal service in Rangiora which is 9.8km away from the current service (or two towns away).

For failed deliveries, we will also have to travel to Rangiora to collect our packages. The planned closure, coupled with the proposed shutting down of the Woodend service, will create an unnecessary burden for our community.

Although a 9.8 km distance might not be far for some, it presents a significant challenge for older residents, or those without easy access to transportation. For many, it’s not just about the physical distance but also about the time, cost, and the inconvenience it introduces to daily lives.

We urge New Zealand Post to reconsider their decision.

This isn't just about managing our mail; it's about keeping basic services available for Pegasus residents. Let us hold New Zealand Post accountable for the social responsibility they hold within our community.

Sign this petition if you believe in maintaining essential services close to home and to show New Zealand Post the importance of keeping the postal service within Pegasus.
