Hello, and thank you to everyone who signed this petition this school year! We wanted to follow up with you to announce a free, RSVP-only community event, “The Rainbow in the Room,” which will take place on April 21 at 4:00 in Berrien Springs, Michigan. We look forward to hearing from former VP for Diversity and Inclusion, Michael Nixon, who will educate us on informed ways to care for LGBTQ+ individuals from different cultural contexts. Other keynote speakers will discuss topics like the researched mental health needs and concerns of LGBTQ+ young people in Berrien County and the history of conversion therapy. We are hosting all presentations in small break-off group settings, where community members will have the opportunity to share their viewpoints and hear from others.

We believe that engaging in dialogue and being informed about care for all members of our community, is what it means to uplift and celebrate diversity and inclusion. We’d love for more people to come and learn more about evidence-based, informed care for LGBTQ+ people! And, crucially, we'd love to have people share their perspectives and journeys with other community members. 

We acknowledge that this is a tough dialogue to have, which is why we want people of all perspectives to lend their voices to our conversation. We believe that transcending feedback loops and echo chambers of discussion is one way our community can come together and learn from each other. As a bonus, we will be sharing free scientific and SDA resources for you to take home. So, have refreshments, hear from intelligent presenters, and contribute to the conversation!
