Described by many visitors as "Heaven on Earth" Beaufort County is attracting many new residents and much development. As concerned residents, we wish to communicate a mandate for the proactive and sustainable stewardship of our environment and the preservation of our heritage.

"Save the Port Royal Heritage Oak" is a grassroots effort to preserve the 2013 SC Heritage Oak and protect the gravesite of Mary Pope. The nearly twelve-acre Oak View parcel on which it sits is graced by dozens of landmark and specimen trees that make Beaufort County unique.

We wish to express to the property owner, Beaufort County, and South Carolina State historical preservation and environmental protection agencies our enthusiastic support for the preservation of this tract as a community asset and our willingness to partner with local government to support the creation of a passive park at this site.
