Sorry for the delay on this long overdue update, but the Pioneer Arena is open and being well used for one more year!  The City of Castlegar and the RDCK have provided no update on the housing project or the operational status of the Pioneer Arena for the 2025/26 season.  One year at-a-time operational status, which is status quo since 2009.

Perhaps there is some sense at the RDCK as they reach phase 3 of the reimagining recreation services in Castlegar process.  A survey is open now to guage citizen support for a tax increase just to build a new secondary ice sheet to replace the Pioneer Arena.  The project cost and tax increase proposed is a worst case number if no grants or donations are received.
