901/925 Columbia Avenue is the current location of the Pioneer Arena recreational facility which is fully operational, well-used, and critically important for all ice-users and Castlegar businesses. There is no plan for a replacement of this facility which will be demolished to serve as the parking lot of this new proposed Primary Care Facility building.
The City of Castlegar already opened a Primary Care Facility in March 2020, as seen at this link. https://www.trailtimes.ca/news/new-urgent-and-primary-care-centre-to-open-in-castlegar
This facility failed since there are not enough doctors in Castlegar to staff their offices, the emergency room, and the Primary Care Facility at the same time. https://www.grandforksgazette.ca/news/castlegar-doctors-address-misunderstandings-about-urgent-and-primary-care-centre
The new Primary Care Facility building is being pushed by only a portion of doctors currently in Castlegar who want new fancy offices and also want someone else to operate and pay for the building. This will not bring new doctors or keep doctors in Castlegar and will fail for the same reasons the previous Primary Care Facility in Castlegar failed. Most likely it will become an empty building just like in the Fraser Valley. https://www.castlegarnews.com/news/chilliwacks-new-primary-care-centre-cant-find-doctors
The citizens of Castlegar don't need millions of our tax dollars wasted on empty offices that require the demolition of a historic and important public recreation facility.
